Exploring Tatra – Useful advices

  Tatra are the highest mountain range in the Carpathian Mountains and they are classified as having an alpine landscape although they are

considerably smaller than the Alps. 

  Due to their mountain character and their great accessibility from both Poland or Slovakia, they are holiday destination for many travellers, especially from Eastern Europe and best for ski resort vacation 

  The state border between Poland and Slovakia runs along the main Tatra ridge, starting with Laliove sedlo saddle and leaving the High Tatras at

  Rysy peak (2499 m).

  The Polish part of the Tatras was formally declared a national park in 1955. Forests of this park are home for a rich wild life: deer, wild boar, lynx, wolves, bears,  a great variety of birds and the Apollo butterfly. The upper rocky areas are populated with chamois, alpine marmots, golden eagle

  The mountain meadows and the valleys are covered with flowers some of them being rare types.

  Cable cars and chairlifts serve ski vacation areas of  Kasprowy Wierch Peak, Goryczlowa and Gasienicowa valleys.

  250 kilometres of trails are available in the park for all ranges of hikers, from beginner to experimented climbers. 

  The access in the high mountain areas is possible by bus up to the valleys entrance, and further you have to continue on foot.

  There are few paths where the mountain bike is permitted.

  Travelers head for Zakopane, as the biggest Tatra mountain resort and the main gateway to the whole area. As the major center of winter sports, this city is the place where  the tourists find accommodation in hotels, inns, and boarding-houses. There are too other facilities as restaurants, cafes, shops, art galleries, sport facilities and nightclubs.

  Our advices for your holiday plans in Tatra Mountains:

  Plain your ski vacation from December through May, and hiking from May through September. 

  Book-villas in advance for Christmas, New Year, Easter, summer holidays or for weekends

  If you do not like crowded resorts, you can choose lodgings in villages on the both Poland or Slovak side.
